Imagine a military where men and women sleep together in the same room, shower together in the same community showers, and go to the bathroom sitting next to each other. A military where there is no longer a gender, but as the motto says, “An Army of One.” The “brilliant” PR Firm that made this motto had no idea what they were advocating for.
I’m sure there would be perverts that would really enjoy this scenario, but in the grand scheme of things, this would be deadly to the morale, recruitment, and effectiveness of our military.
Two days ago, Defense Secretary Robert Gates testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee and made one statement that should be less than appealing for any member of our armed services. He is seeking the repeal of one of the only things Bill Clinton did that is worth talking about, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
He is currently setting up a high level committee that will determine the best way to repeal this policy. In other words, a year from now we may actually have openly gay members of our military.
What does this mean for American troops? Well, frankly, things are going to get really awkward. How would you like to be a heterosexual male or female and shower next to an openly homosexual member of your sex?
Imagine being a straight guy and showering next to Rep. Barney Frank….NOT HAPPENING right? Coming from a military school, the conditions of a military environment are not made to protect the privacy of an individual.
In other words, taking a shower for a homosexual person will be like a 18 year old heterosexual guy showering in the locker room, without shower barriers, with a bunch of female cheerleaders….can you say awkward? A military shower for a gay person will be equivalent to Disney world for a little kid.
They are in a shower surrounded by Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and a bunch of their favorite characters. Best part of all? They don’t have to pay to experience it and Uncle Sam provides all of the transportation!
If Congress votes to repeal this policy some dangerous scenarios will be played out. First, homosexual men and women will be allowed to shower with non-homosexual men and women. This would ruin the morale and environment of our military. However, if this is allowed, then there is no longer a reason to separate the privacy of men and women either. If men who like men get to shower, sleep, and use amenities with other men, what is the difference between men who like women showering, sleeping, and using amenities with them?
This would set up a precedent for the military to no longer recognize a gender, but just a individual. If the military prohibits men and women from being in certain environments together, specifically because of the natural attraction one is supposed to have to the opposite sex, it will no longer be able to prohibit this if gays are allowed to call themselves gay. It would be called discrimination because gays would have more rights than non-gays. Unbelievable right? The scenario mentioned in the beginning of my article then becomes much more realistic.
Men and women will no longer want to
join the military. What wife or husband of a married man or woman would want their spouse to be naked around a bunch of members of the opposite sex every day? Recruitment will drop and make way for one thing…..a re-institution of the draft. Perhaps this is the reason our President and Defense Secretary Gates is trying to ban this policy. Decrease recruitment so that a draft becomes necessary. It certainly would make sense and has probably crossed their mind if it isn’t their motivation for this atrocious attack on our military.
The morale of our troops would be greatly decreased. Sexual harassment would become much more prevalent. Discrimination would become a very common part of everyday life. The military would not function as effectively and the desire to fight would be greatly decreased because of the distractions facing our troops.
There is no mistake; a chain reaction of horrible consequences will happen if Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is repealed. I cannot even find a joke to make about the impending doom our armed services will face if our “Shepherd” and his “Flock of Geniuses” decide to officially go through with this. Remember, we are only as good as our weakest link. When our entire military is weak because of these gender and sexuality issues, we aren’t very good now are we?
