The ghost of Sanford is not a factor in the primary. In the general election, the Democrat will try to raise it, but South Carolinians supported Sanford's stances against the Feds. Sanford's personal disgrace doesn't carry over to the Republican nominee and any attempt by the Democrat nominee to tar the Republican with Sanford's problems will sound lame. So, I don't think that Nikki Haley's talking points on budget and dealing with the unpopular Obama administraton redound against her. She is the breath of fresh air that people are looking for today. I agree that this four-candidate field is strong. McMaster will get a lot of mileage from his actions with other states' AGs on Obamacare and the Cornhusker Kickback. His actions are praiseworthy for this, but as for gubernatorial issues, he may be lacking. As for Bauer, he seems to be too much of a loose cannon to be ready for prime time, but he has staked out strong issue positions. Barrett is a nice guy who can't recover from his TARP vote blunder. I vote for Haley, a dynamic cross between Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin. She, like Bauer, has come down for fundamental tax reform. Bauer is my second choice.
