"A Conservative should believe in a Government that wants the people to run it."

"They also had no intention of securing the blessings of liberty by fighting imperialistic wars in places like Vietnam and perhaps we can consider Iraq."

Interesting take.

"You might be a Conservative if you believe Social Security, Medicare, and Welfare are a complete fraud and abuse of Congress’ constitutional powers of the purse."

This. Same could be said for a handful-and-a-half of ABC-soup agencies as well.

"You might be a Conservative if you are eligible for unemployment but don’t file because it means too much government in your personal life."

To be honest, this is not only a conservative thing, it has something to do with keeping your pride. It's a virtue that's near gone for the ones who just want everything fed to them by the government, and it's pathetic. And there seems to be an astounding leniency on Unemployment, which makes it even more of a joke. Keep in mind, I said seems to be, in case numbers show different or what have you.

"Marriage, since it is a religious practice, should actually only be recognized as a religious issue."

Yes somehow in the race to accomodate for everybody they quietly took this fact out back and began changing Marriage into something of post-Enlightenment culture. Or something. If that makes sense.

"The New Deal didn’t get America out of the Great Depression, the war did."

Exactly. Good read man, nice site overall. I'll be sure to check back up on it.

Thoughtful post, Mitch. A couple of points I hope you'll further ponder:

- the sanctity of life, and thus being against abortion, is, in my view, consistent with Conservative philosophy, because it ties directly to the unalienable right endowed by our Creator to life as acknowledged in our Declaration of Independence. Without life, the Constitution is moot.

- perhaps your view on marriage is more consistent with Libertarian philosophy than Conservativism. Most states require a government marriage license prior to being able to be married. Hardly just a religious ritual...

- you'll get little push-back regarding separation of church and state being consistent with Conservative philosophy. Where we find problems is the government's compliance with the First Amendment and the Establishment clause. The Conservative position is freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.

Thanks for having the courage of your convictions to "put it out there," Mitch!
